I own a 4 in 1 USB Hub. When I try to connect my External USB Hard Disk Drive thru the HUB, it does not receive detected. When I check the System Device Properties, the External Hard drive shows as detected but not installed due to unavailability of drivers.
I am using Windows XP Professional OS which does not need the installation of drivers to detect a USB device.
Also, the Hard drive when connected directly to the Laptop wors lately like a USB Device is suposed to. Another piece is that any other device connected to the USB hub (like my flash and Zip Drives) work perfectly..
Can Anyone provide me an explanation to this one and a style to work around this problem?
My USB (4 surrounded by 1) HUB does not detect my external Hard drive but detects a Flash Drive.?
This is a common issue.
Many models of external complicated drives will not function properly when connected via some hubs because they cannot be properly detected by Windows through the hub.
Tell me the brands & models of the hub & drive if you need more details.

Does your external HDD you are using have a power supply or does it power thru the USB cord. I hold a external HDD that has USB plug that connects and powers the HDD. Are you using a 1.1 USB hub and try to power anything it will not work as the USB 1.1 does not own the capablities to power a USB 2.0 Device that requires power...
I have the exact same scenario and it's pissing me stale. My brother said that there is not satisfactory power from the laptop to the usb hub to the external hard drive. Maybe the external tricky drive just uses more power.
Can you please tolerate me know if you find a solution to this?
