Lacie, Seagate, Maxtor

More Pricey: GTech, Glyph, and Wiebetech.

Are they worth the increased price?

Go with Western Digital's Dual Option Media Center or Maxtor's One Touch.

Actually, any drive by WD, Maxtor, Seagate, or Lacie should do you of late fine.

Don't pay the extra price for the others, they're purely charging you for the "free" bundled software.
It doesn't really what brand of harddrive. It won't have any conflicts on any computers or any programs.

But Western Digital is pretty correct.

There isn't much points to buy expensive harddrive. Harddrives usually do not fail. If they do go amiss, it doens't really matter how much is your harddrive because even the most expensive harddrive would come to nothing.

Just remember to back-up and you won't lose any data that you stipulation!

Also, it is a better deal to buy internal harddrive next to external harddrive box. You can change harddrive when you call for to and it is more flexible and inexpensive.
Actually you are not interested in brand. You are interested surrounded by transfer rate for HDD. This resources you need 5400 rpm/better 7200/ and 8 Mb lolly. But these doesnt matter if your interface is not hurried enough - so better buy external HDD beside fireware connection - its faster consequently USB 2. For video you will need rapid access to HDD. And yes fireware/ieee1394/ is little bit over prized.
Just a heads up, I've hear of people have some major issues near Lacie hard drives lately, so you might want to check them out formerly you buy.
