First I requirement to know what Operating System your using (Windows ME, 98, XP, 2000).



The first thing you can do is see if it's a problem beside your USB Port. Can your computer recognize anything else? Or is it restricted to your iPod not working?



If your computer can see other USB devices than it's probably something wrong near the installation drivers associated with your iPod. If that's the suitcase that what you may have to do is uninstall everything associated beside your iPod, restart your computer, then install everything BEFORE you plug within your iPod to your computer.



Otherise, google it and see if anybody else has encounter the same problem. Usually you'll find a few family who've encountered indistinguishable problem and they'll be able to contribute you a better solution. Good luck, let me know if this have helped.
Thats happen to me before too. Reset the iPod. Hold the Menu&Center button untill an apple deity appears and wait for the iPod to reset. It should work consequently.
