Have you ever removed the disk without any shutting the computer down or properly ejecting the device first? If so next your partition more than expected is screwed up on the device. You will have to format it to win it to work again. Been there done that...
If USB is kaput period, next the driver got screwed up.
If the drive works on another electrical device, then it is the driver again on the computer.
do a system restore.
